ADOPTION PROCESS & FAQs

A frequently asked question is, "how do I adopt?" First we'd like to say, thank you for considering adoption.

1.) The first step would be to put in an adoption application. Even if you're applying for foster to adopt.

2.) If your application is approved you should hear back from us within 1-2weeks or sooner to book a meet and greet appointment. This communication will be done either by Text or email so please keep an eye on your inbox and make sure you check your JUNK mail for any missed emails.

3.) At this appointment we ask you to bring either a carrier, leash & harness/collar or other supplies/equipment needed for safe transport. If everyone feels that it's a good match we would finalize the adoption that day.

Payment Methods:

We accept Credit Card, Cash, or eTransfer.

No Checks, or Debit

We do not have an ATM at this location so please make these arrangement prior to appointment.

Our e-transfer address is, Rescue@MHNNRescue.com

Foster To Adopt:

We will ask for a deposit of the full agreed upon adoption amount for approved foster to adopt. This deposit will be held until final adoption contract is signed. If the foster to adopt arrangement doesn't result in a final adoption within the agreed term period, a refund of the deposit will be refunded to applicant upon return of the animal.

* We offer foster to adopt to give both the animal and applicant(s) the chance to begin the bonding process while the animal completes any of the required care/ treatments before the animal is ready for a full adoption.

What does adoption include?

✔︎  All of our animals have veterinary care provided before their

adoption is finalized. This includes treatment for medical issues, long term treatment plans for any special needs animals, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchips, deworming, and spayed/neutered depending on species. All adopters will be provided all of this information.

All Felines MUST be spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed and vaccinated before leaving MHNNRescue custody.

All Canines MUST be microchipped, dewormed and vaccinated before leaving MHNNRescue custody.

Adopters may be eligible for a 15% off discount on future Spays/Neuters if completed

WITHIN 1 Year of animals birthday.

This appointment MUST be booked through the MHNNRescue. So please contact us before booking.

Only accepted at, Lanark Leeds Grenville Spay Neuter Clinic

Adoptions are finalized at the following ages.

❀ Kittens   ➸ Finalized at 16-20 weeks old.

(Foster to adopt available at 10 weeks.)

❀ Puppies  ➸ Finalized at 16 weeks old.

(Foster to adopt available at 8 weeks.)

(*This time line may vary depending on each litter/orphan or special needs case.)

✰ NO HOLDS on MHNNRescue animals. No exceptions.

✰ MHNNRescue does NOT adopted on a first come basis.

✰ Any negotiating of adoption fee will result in automatic denial.

Every animal has specific needs and personalities. We place animals in the most appropriate homes. This is why we ask for as much detail as possible during the application process. Please reach out to us is you feel there's more we should know about your application.

✯ KITTEN ADOPTIONS, Be aware kittens 16-20 weeks old will only be adopted in pairs, or to multi cat homes. Meaning you must have at least 1 kitten or cat under 8 years old. Otherwise we will require that you apply to adopt a second kitten. If we don't have a suitable match at the time we can suggest another rescue to adopt the second kitten from. If approved we will process adoption. This is to help with developmental issues in single kittens and avoid putting existing senior animals under stress.

✯ PUPPY ADOPTIONS, We encourage adopting a single puppy at a time. If adopting 2 puppies in the same time frame please consider adopting from separate litters as to avoid littermate syndrome.

We strongly encourage Foster-to-adopt.

This gives everyone a chance to make sure its the right decision fit.

However our foster-to-adopt families are required to follow strict requirements. Bringing the adoptive animals back to our care for follow up treatments or vet appointments until all treatments or required care is complete. As well as following all MHNNRescue foster care guidelines.

They're also required to provide weekly picture/video update for our social media.

MHNNRescue are the legal owner of foster-to-adopt animals and retains all rights for treatments, vet care, and decisions regarding care of animal until adoption contract and payment has been completed. Any disagreements during this time may result having to legally return foster-to-adopt animal back to the MHNNRescue nursery with no negotiation. Our interest is in what's best for our animals and finding the best homes possible.
